In March, 2021, the Tej Kohli and Ruit Foundation was inaugurated in Lumbini – the birthplace of Lord Buddha.

Eye health personnel screened more than 900 people inside the Royal Thai Monastery. People from different walks of lives, experiencing difficulty in their eyes had their sight checked for free by the Tej Kohli and Ruit Foundation screening team.

Of them, 312 people were eligible to receive a free cataract surgery under the Tej Kohli and Ruit Foundation.

The 312 patients were assigned dates for their free surgery. In the meantime, the medical team converted a small prayer room in Lumbini into an operating theater. Once the theatre was setup, Nepal’s God of Sight, Dr. Sanduk Ruit, who is also the co-founder of the Tej Kohli and Ruit Foundation, assisted by Dr. Sagar Ruit and a battery of healthcare personnel conducted 312 cataract surgeries in four days. 

The surgery lasts seven minutes and costs only $50 – and has the ability to transform lives.

 With the power of 50 and 7 (#50and7), patients who have been disproportionately affected due to their socio-economic condition receive a second chance to sight.
